Variant codes:
1 = monofunctional spectinomycin adenyltransferase
2 = bifunctional streptinomycin/spectinomycin adenyltransferase

Streptomycin 3''-O-adenylyltransferase (EC 2.7.7.47); Spectinomycin 9-O-adenylyltransferase is a dual-specificiy enzyme.
The prototype is on a transposon on the R100 plasmid.

The spectinomycin-specific gene is:

Murphy,E. 1985. Nucleotide sequence of a spectinomycin adenyltransferase AAD(9) determinant from Staphylococcus aureus and its relationship to AAD(3') (9). Mol. Gen. Genet. 200; 33-39.

Also see:

LeBlanc,D.J., Lee,L.N. and Inamine,J.M. 1991. Cloning and nucleotide base sequence analysis of a spectinomycin adenyltransferase AAD(9) determinant from Enterococcus faecalis. Antimicrob. Agents Chemother. 35; 1804-1810.

These latter genes are misannotated in Swiss-Prot and UniProt.
