MazG is a NTP and dNTP pyrophosphohydrolase, and at least in Thermotoga it is a pyrophosphatase. Although it sounds like a Nudix protein, it is not essential, deletion is not mutagenic, and 2-hybrid studies suggest an interaction with Era GTPase. In addition, it's substrates seem to be the canonical nucleotides, not analogs. This subsystem exists only due to its broad distribution Might be a pseudogene in Bartonella quintana str. Toulouse |
